He’s gold.

My husband’s job is really rough. He works from 10 to 13 hours a day with no break for lunch (he can eat while he works which isn’t healthy but literally, he could eat, though he usually does not).

He is scheduled to work 10 hours 5 days a week, but he inevitably works 12 or 13 on 2 or 3 of the 5 days. I tell him that he is going to kill himself for this company. He’s been doing it for years. I tell him that the company won’t ever address the issue if he keeps solving their problems. He differs…

He tells me he stays and works because of his co-workers. If he were to leave on time he would be leaving them in a horrible position. Phones ringing, timed reports would get missed and the 30 growling men in the dispatch room were all be growling at one person instead of two.

He tells me he stays and works because of the 30 growling guys in the dispatch room. They all get paid by the miles they put in, and if he can help them get on with their day, he wants to be able to do that.

He tells me that I would do the same thing in his place.

I tell him I wouldn’t, because I think that the company will only staff the management appropriately if they have to deal with the issue head-on. I’m not that nice.

…He’s a pretty special guy.
